Mind Over Matter: Cultivate an Entrepreneurial Mindset
Laura Sage + Linda Perry, Unlock Your Entrepreneurial Mindset // Episode 2
Mind Over Matter showcases unique strategies that top business leaders and organizations are leveraging to support employee wellness.
Laura Sage, Founder + CEO of Chill Anywhere, sat down with Linda M Perry, an Entrepreneur Mindset Coach with certifications from the Ford Institute and Levin Life Coach Academy. Linda is a Colorado girl with Chicago still in her heart. She’s been helping people uncover their voice and share their story her whole life. She spent 17 years as a federal criminal defense attorney but found it even more gratifying to help hundreds of clients master their entrepreneur mindsets and find greater success.
Below are key takeaways from their conversation:
How do you incorporate mindfulness in your business?
I have to say that mindfulness never came easy for me and it is something that I always have to work with. I am a master mindset coach and work with entrepreneurs that are in the growth phase of their business because that’s when mindfulness really matters. Since there's so much happening during an entrepreneur’s growth phase and in order to intentionally build a business, you have to stay grounded in your vision. You have to make decisions not based on fear and scarcity. I teach entrepreneurs how to ground themselves and connect themselves to a more powerful mindset through mindfulness practices.
What are the tools you use to help entrepreneurs become grounded?
I call my version of entrepreneur mindset coaching “practical-woo.” In other words my coaching is designed to uncover and dismantle your limiting beliefs and patterns so you can finally take real action. I help my clients quiet the noise so they can tune into the signals that are always there. We talk about fears, we talk about limiting beliefs, we talk about how your subconscious brain is driving your decision making, and we talk about how you get into the present moment so you aren't worrying about the what if’s of tomorrow and the mistakes of your past. It’s about helping people make decisions in a healthy state of mind.
How do you help people get into their subconscious brain?
There's a couple of different things that I do. I speak about connecting the head and the heart through guided meditations. In these meditations, I invite people to close their eyes, connect within and work toward activating their subconscious brain. When the subconscious mind is activated, we are able to create shifts, sort of like reprogramming their mind. This is how you learn to work with your limiting beliefs and fear can become your friend. I provide practical life skills that allow you to move forward. Coaching is really about action. Everything we do is taking your new subconscious programming and creating action in the outer world.
So are you guiding your clients through meditations?
I offer private meditation through one-on-one coaching. I also host monthly meditations that all of my clients are welcome to participate.
My mindfulness practice is really important since it helps me stay focused on the present. Are you skewed toward the present, past or future?
I really think I'm a past girl. I ruminate over all my mistakes and think about, “Oh, did I say the wrong thing?” “Did I hurt someone's feelings today?”, “I could have done that better?” I definitely tend to get stuck in my past patterns.
Do you ever have someone guide you in meditations?
I do. I'm really lucky to have a wide network of coaches to guide me through meditations. I like using guided meditations because I'm not good at doing them by myself. I tend to still be somewhat cerebral, and so it's really good to be guided.
Have you tried the Chill Anywhere app yet?
I have, actually, the second I saw you post about it, I downloaded it right away. I was really excited because one of the things about not being in Chicago meant I didn't get to go to Chill. Thankfully, I really love having the app because I'm really good at my morning structure. I get up, I read, I have free thinking time where I write, and then I go to the gym. For me, it’s the afternoons where I need a reset. What I've found with the Chill Anywhere app is that if I set a reminder for 3pm, I take the time to pause. The categories are all very relevant to my life. So your app has been really good.
How can entrepreneurs, executives and anyone learn more about your work?
You can find me on my website, https://www.lindamperry.com/. I'm also always on Instagram and LinkedIn. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about how I work and/or how I can help. You don’t need to be in Colorado to work with me.
