Q3 2024 - Mindfulness in the News Roundup
Wonder why everyone's always talking about mindfulness? Well, research continues to uncover amazing benefits that go beyond just feeling zen – think less anger, reduced anxiety, and improved wellbeing. Let's explore the latest findings in our quarterly roundup and see how mindfulness can help us live a more CHILL life.
Decrease Anger
Mindfulness is known for its ability to address various behaviors, including cravings and substance use disorders (SUD). And, recent research in Brazil has added to mindfulness’s power by exploring its impact on anger management. The study involved a group of men who underwent eight mindfulness sessions and discovered it helped reduce their anger. Plus, it also benefitted those with SUD—a double win!
Consider integrating mindfulness into your routine to experience its powerful benefits. Remember, taking the time to CHILL is good for you.
Reduced Anxiety and Depression
It's well-known that mindfulness can reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Now, new research highlights that mindfulness can alter attentional biases. Attentional bias affects how we perceive and react to our surroundings.
After practicing mindfulness, individuals showed an increased bias towards happy faces and a decreased bias towards sad faces. This means mindfulness helps us notice and react to positive vibes around us, improving our mood and reducing stress and anxiety. Let’s bring on the happy.
Exploring Different Types of Mindfulness
Mindfulness can be practiced in various forms, but how do different types of mindfulness interventions compare? A recent study investigated the effects of different mindfulness practices: sitting for 10 or 30 minutes and moving for 10 or 30 minutes. The study found that all these practices led to increased mindfulness, improved wellbeing, and decreased psychological distress.
Interestingly, the type and duration of mindfulness practice did not result in significant differences in outcomes. And, even brief mindfulness sessions can be both more manageable and highly beneficial.
