Five things to expect from your first meditation class

So you’re ready to begin meditation in Chicago and don’t know where to start. Maybe mantras and chakras aren’t your thing, but you know you’d like to slow down a bit and feel less stress in your day to day life. That’s where we come in.

We get a lot of questions regarding what to expect in your first meditation class here at Chill, and we want you to have all the information you need to make that first appointment with yourself.  For starters, you’re about to start living a less stressed, more mindful life and open up more health benefits than we can count.

1. there are no rules /

It’s not often you take a class with no rules. Forget what you might have heard about how to “correctly” meditate. Hands up, hands down, legs crossed, lying down, workout clothes, work clothes. At Chill, there are zero rules.  Meditation can be a turnkey experience, customized to fit your comfort level in all ways. If it isn’t easy, it’s hard and that’s why you’re here in the first place, right? To make life a little easier. So make yourself comfortable and follow our guided meditations for a 30-minute mental vacation from your day.

2. you won’t need to chant, “om” or repeat mantras /

While there are many different forms of meditation out there, we’ve simplified our classes to focus on slowing down and leaving worries behind. You do not need to know a single thing about meditation before coming to your first class at Chill. Our experienced instructors will take you through a 30 minute guided session and all you have to do is breathe and relax.

3. you might not nail it in your first session /

It’s called a practice for a reason. Taming that constant stream of thoughts is no easy task, and you may not be able to do so fully in your first session with us. That’s ok. We believe making a habit out of pausing during your day is the first step to sustained mindfulness and all you have to do to is begin.

4. we’re all moving at our own pace without judgment /

In the spirit of practice, meditation is very much a personal experience and we can only move at our individual paces. You can feel comfortable in our judgment-free classes and our instructors are here to help if you need them. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, the experience is always all about you and your personal path to stillness.

5. we’ve thought of everything with you in mind /

We want you to be able to pop into Chill whenever you’d like, knowing that you don’t need to prepare anything beforehand.  We have all the water, cushions, lockers, and quiet you need. All you have to do is stop by.

Since we’re all need a break sometimes from the hurry! now! urgent! of our daily lives, start your journey at Chill.  Press pause and give yourself a break with us. It’s good for you.
